When we feel envy, we are inclined not to exam it – instead we feel ashamed and guilty.
Envy, like fear, is an important emotion that exists for some good reasons – its there to help us know what we want.
Its a call to action about what we should be doing with the rest of our lives.
Getting past the humiliation and we can start to see envious feelings as a set of clues about what we might do next.
Study and maybe record on paper the situations and people that make us envious.
Envy diary could contain fragments of a future self trying to break through
We forget the things we admire dont just belong to one specific, very attractive life – they can be pursued in lesser, weaker but still very real doses, opening up the possibility of creating many smaller, more manageable and more realistic versions of the lives we are drawn to.
Lets become careful and diligent students of our most persistent envious feelings – they’re trying to tell us something…and we should listen
